In order to access Kalwun's services, a Confirmation of Aboriginality may be required.

Eligibility requirements for Confirmation of Aboriginality are as below.

1. Aboriginality eligibility

To meet this criterion, you must satisfy all of the following:

  • Descent – Can prove that a parent is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (family tree/other relevant documentation required).
  • Self identification – Must identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Community recognition – Be accepted as such by the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community in which you live (one written reference required).

2. Locational eligibility

Locational eligibility relates to the coverage of Kalwun Development Corporation Ltd being for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of the Gold Coast.

To meet this criterion you must satisfy any one of the following:

  • From the Gold Coast and still currently living in the Gold Coast.
  • From the Gold Coast or have lived the majority of your life on the Gold Coast, but you are currently living elsewhere.
  • Born/raised on the Gold Coast regardless of where your family is from.
  • From a community outside the Gold Coast, but have lived the majority of your life on the Gold Coast or at least the past 10 years.

How to apply

When applying for a Confirmation of Aboriginality you will need to provide the supporting documentation as outlined on the application form.

Application forms can be collected from the Kalwun Head Office at Level 1, 14 Cassia Drive, Varsity Lakes.

The Confirmation of Aboriginality remains entirely at the discretion of the Kalwun Board. Despite an application being complete, if the Kalwun Board does not have any knowledge of the applicant or their family heritage, they will not approve the Confirmation of Aboriginality. Furthermore, Kalwun will only issue a Confirmation of Aboriginality to persons over the age of 18 years.
