On 12 March 2020 it was announced by the World Health Organisation that COVID-19 (commonly referred to as Coronavirus) had been declared a pandemic. Please be assured that the Kalwun team is working hard to keep you safe and informed during this time. The situation is moving very rapidly so please be patient with us as we try to get the best information and support for you. The following is a summary of changes to Kalwun's service delivery.

Head Office:

  • Corporate Office – All visitors, including stakeholders, members and tenants, are discouraged from attending the office (email and telephone phone communication encouraged).

  • Community Housing – Only urgent repairs and maintenance will be undertaken until further notice. Inspections will cease until further notice unless approved by the CEO.

Health Services:

  • Miami, Coomera and Bilinga clinics – Doctors appointments running as usual however no walk-ins permitted, please call before to make an appointment. Additional infection control precautions have been implemented. 

  • Clients experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are directed to access the Kalwun COVID-10 Respiratory Clinic in Nerang.
  • Dental services have resumed as normal* - additional screening questions conducted prior to all consultations.

  • Care Coordination to resume as normal*.

  • Social Health (Mental Health and AoD) support services to resume as normal*.
  • Deadly Choices to recommence the delivery of programs onsite at educational facilities. 

  • All Health Programs conducted onsite and externally to recommence in line with the state government roadmap stage 3, at this stage planned for 10 July 2020. 

Child and Family Support Services:

  • All FLDM, Family Group Meetings, Departmental meetings, clients meetings and any other external stakeholder meetings conducted on Kalwun premises may be resumed*.
  • All Programs and Play Groups conducted on Kalwun premises to recommence in line with the state Govt roadmap stage 3, at this stage planned for 10 July 2020. 

  • Family Participation Program, Youth Wellbeing, Foster and Kinship and Family Wellbeing employees face-to-face contact with clients may be resumed*

  • StreetCred participation to recommence in line with the state Govt roadmap stage 3, at this stage planned for 10 July 2020. 

  • Kalwun Early Learning Program mirrors the State Government’s rules and regulations for schools.

Community Care Services:

  • Wellness Centre respite to recommence* during the week beginning 29June 2020.
  • Home Care Packages and In-Home Support – Continuing with a slightly modified business model. Additional infection control precautions have been implemented and cash handling is not permitted.

Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre:

  • Centre re-opening and tours resuming* from Monday 6 July 2020.

*Kalwun has an overarching policy that staff will adhere to social distancing measures and government recommendations regarding the number of persons per square metre in defined spaces. Additional hygiene precautions are also being applied.
