On 12 March 2020 it was announced by the World Health Organisation that COVID-19 (commonly referred to as Coronavirus) had been declared a pandemic. Please be assured that the Kalwun team is working hard to keep you safe and informed during this time. The situation is moving very rapidly so please be patient with us as we try to get the best information and support for you. An evolving Action Plan for Kalwun has been developed for the month of March with the following immediate actions in place:

Head Office:

  • Corporate Office – All visitors, including stakeholders, members and tenants, are discouraged from attending the office (email and telephone phone communication encouraged).

  • Community Housing – Only urgent repairs and maintenance will be undertaken until further notice. Inspections will cease until further notice unless approved by the CEO.

Health Services:

  • Miami, Coomera and Bilinga clinics – Doctors appointments running as usual however no walk-ins permitted, please call before to make an appointment. Additional infection control precautions have been implemented. Clients experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are encouraged to access public health facilities or phone 13HEALTH, please call us if you are unsure.

  • Miami dental services - Dental services now suspended.

  • Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drugs support – Outreach services and educational programs suspended and support continuing via telephone contact or within the clinics in certain circumstances.

  • Care Coordination and Indigenous Health Project Officer functions – Outreach services suspended and support continuing via telephone contact or within the clinics in certain circumstances.

  • Deadly Choices Program – All programs (including at schools) have been suspended.

  • Child and Maternal Health – Home visits suspended and support provided in clinics.

  • Transport and Indigenous Outreach Officer functions – Continue as usual with the implementation of additional eligibility screening measures and increased infection control precautions.

Child and Family Support Services:

  • ALL PROGRAMS - Face-to-face contact with families will be limited (approved by the General Manager) and support is continuing via telephone contact.

  • Family Wellbeing Services – Stakeholder meetings conducted by telelink.

  • Family Participation Program – Family-led conferences on-site suspended. Stakeholder meetings conducted by telelink.

  • Youth Program – All programs suspended. Stakeholder meetings conducted by telelink.

  • Foster and Kinship Care – All programs and in-home assessments suspended. Stakeholder meetings conducted by telelink.

  • Early Education Program – Services (including care service and playgroup) suspended.

Community Care Services:

  • Wellness Centre and Day Respite – Suspended and support provided via telephone.

  • Home Care Packages and In-Home Support – Continuing with a slightly modified business model. Additional infection control precautions have been implemented and cash handling is not permitted.

Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre:

  • Closed until further notice and all tours and external childcare programs suspended.
