NAIDOC Week on the Gold Coast just keeps getting better and better.

Each year the community comes together across the week to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and this year saw larger crowds than ever before.

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme was VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH. Let’s work together for a shared future. This theme ties in with 2019 being celebrated as the United Nations International Year of Indigenous Languages and encourages people to share their stories and knowledge.

Across the week we heard from some incredible guest speakers and celebrated stories through song and dance.

I would like to again thank the Karulbo Partnership and the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships for their financial contributions to enable these events to occur across the Gold Coast, and express my gratitude to the Gold Coast NAIDOC Committee and all event organisers for what was an incredible array of activities and entertainment for the whole community throughout the week.

NAIDOC Week 2019 certainly was one to remember and I can’t wait to see 2020 bigger and better again!
