The 2020/2021 financial year and the ongoing COVID pandemic brought uncertainty and challenges to Kalwun Development Corporation however, with the dedication and innovation of the Board, Executive Leadership Team and staff members, we were able to persevere and even excel in areas whilst continuing to deliver quality services to our community.

Kalwun’s 2020/2021 Annual Report and accompanying video summary detail another milestone year of achievements at the organisation including:

  • The care-taking of an expanded Foster and Kinship Care program for the wider Beenleigh area as well as the delivery of the Family Participation Program service in Beaudesert on behalf of Mununjali Housing.
  • Delivery of our first Healthy Families Program, focusing on issues relating to domestic and family violence.
  • Implementation of a rejuvenated support structure across Corporate Support Services to enable optimisation in all areas of business.
  • Obtaining Formal Development Approval for eight purpose-built units specifically aimed at accommodating some of our Elders.
  • Receiving funding to increase our Coomera clinic to four operational PODS.
  • The development and introduction of the ‘Little Explorers’ experience at Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre, a tour option for school-aged children and their families.

Kalwun CEO, Kieran Chilcott, acknowledges and thanks our Elders, Directors, Staff and Community for their collective support and contribution.

“Our team have risen to the challenges we have faced time and time again and continued to provide the highest standard of services and facilities to our community during these unprecedented times,” Mr Chilcott said.

“I acknowledge our Elders and our trailblazers for their work to ensure that we are here for community, providing much needed services, and I would also like to recognise our funders and key partners who support and resource us to continue to provide a vast range of services and initiatives across the community.”

With a new strategic plan on the way as well as the development of a host of other significant activities, Kalwun Chairperson, William Oui, is looking forward to another year of achievements.

“It is the beginning of yet another new and exciting era and I am confident that greater days are on the horizon,” Mr Oui said.

“The next 12 months at Kalwun will be even better than the last.”
