|
Kalwun AICCA has been provided with almost $6 million of Bligh Government Funding over the next three years to deliver Recognised Entity and Family Support Services. The service will provide cultural advice and intensive family support and early intervention services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families with children who come to the attention of Child Safety Services.
The funding will cover the Child Safety Service Centre catchment areas of Beenleigh, Beaudesert, Labrador, Mermaid Beach, Nerang, Logan Central, Loganlea, Woodridge and Browns Plains. Services will build on existing family strengths to help families develop healthy relationships and care for themselves and their children.
They include:
· - in-home support
· - parenting help
· - practical household skills
· - support for child development needs
· - intensive family support
· - and supported referrals to specialist services.
These services will be delivered by staff with a range of skills and knowledge, based on contemporary themes in family counselling, therapeutic support and strengths-based practice. Some workers will have other specialised qualifications, such as psychology, social work, education, allied health, or para-professional qualifications. Other areas of specialisation include family therapy and family and individual counselling that promotes improved parenting and healthy and positive family relationships.
Recognised Entity services participate in decisions made by Child Safety Services regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people throughout each phase of the statutory child protection system. These new services will complement a number of existing early intervention and prevention services funded by the Bligh Government.
